Young Adult New Study

The young adult group will begin studing The Social Principles of The United Methodist Church on Sunday September 27th. Below you will find a bit of information about the study. We will meet in the conference room at 9:45 am. I hope that this study will provide a good overview of what it means to be a Methodist.

The Social Principles of The United Methodist Church are the product of ninety-eight years of legislative decisions made by lay and clergy members of The United Methodist Church and its predecessor denominations. The Social Principles are prayerful and thoughtful efforts on the part of many General Conferences to speak to complex and controversial issues in the global community.

Studying the Social Principles provides opportunities to examine your own theology and ethics and to practice discipleship.

Mission Statement

The Young Adult Group is with out a mission statement and while "Service, Study, and Social" is a great slogan to describe us, I think it would be great to define our group a little more clearly. If you have time please pray over what you would like our purpose to be. Here are some ideas that Sarah and I have to offer. Ask yourself "What do you want out of this group? Please feel free to expand on these or to add your own.

Ladies Lunch

We had a great time at Food Glorious Food Saturday! We had great conversation, fabulous deserts, and wonderful fellowship! For those who couldn't make it we would love for you to join us next month. Please put your ideas out there for next month's outing.

New and Improved Blog

Hello everyone,

I hope that your week is going well.

I invite everyone to check out the blog here. Jenna has added a calendar, and a small group met tonight to plan out some events. At first glance it may seem overwhelming, but we have several recurring events.

First are the Sunday school meetings and lay academy classes. These meet weekly and really make the calendar look busy.

Second is meals on wheels. We have volunteered to take one route every Tuesday. If you want to help out, let me know and I will fill you in on the details. It does require anywhere from 1-2 hours during the workday, so some flexibility in your work schedule is likely necessary.

Third are the shelter meals. The class is preparing and serving meals for The Shelter on the first, third, and fifth (when applicable) Monday's, Oct-Dec. Again, if you are interested in helping out, let me know and I will fill you in on the details.

Finally, are the social events. There is an all-inclusive social event every month. Tonight's group planned particular events, but the content of each event can be changed. So, if you have suggestions, pass them along. We also planned dates for separate gals and guys time each month. The September gals and guys events are set, so that those interested can start to plan it out. Events after September are open for suggestions, and they are most certainly welcome.

Each opportunity for study, service, and socializing is open and optional. Our hope is that there is enough to do, during enough different times that everyone can find an avenue for participation. Even occasional time with you in study, service, and socializing is a blessing, and we look forward to some hearty fellowship. As always, if you have any thoughts, please let me know.

in recognition of God's grace and love

Official Sign-ups for Shipwreck Island!!

Hey there everyone,
OK, I think we're ready to do the final sign-ups for Shipwreck Island. You should see a new "Poll" over on the side-bar, which should help with all of us signing up. Just to be sure, we'll try this a couple ways: please use the side-bar to make your choice, but also send me an e-mail (tonyfotsch@tumct.org) just to be sure on this first one.
Details for the trip:
- Meet at Church at 8:30 on Sat. morning. We'll take the bus (seats 14 + driver), but will need to have a couple other vehicles. Mapquest says it is approx. 260 miles round-trip. I think we can all chip-in for the other drivers?
- Please choose between a pizza meal or burger meal with your entrance package. The package with pizza is $30.95, and burger/fries is $31.95. Drinks are included in both. This goes for anyone OVER 36in. All children under 36in. get in for free, but you will have to pay for their own meal.
- Each person going will need to let me know of their meal choice, please.
- We cannot bring coolers, etc. into the park, unfortunately.
- Park hours are 10:30 - 4:30 on Saturday. They are 1-hour earlier in Panama City. So, leaving at 9:00 our time will get us there at 10:30 their time. We'll can figure out departure time on Saturday!
Looking forward to this great trip!

Decisions for "Shipwreck Island" before posting...

Hey there everyone,
I hope I'm not jumping the gun on this. But, after contacting the water-park, I had a couple questions:
1. It turns out they ARE taking group rates next Sat. We just need to get 20 people;-) But, one possibility is that they have a package deal for park entrance fee AND voucher for meals for anyone over 35 in. It is $30.95 for a pizza, or $31.95 with burger & fries (drink included in either one). Does this seem like something we'd like to do (it seems like a good idea to me)?

2. If so, I need to know what people want for their meals to make the purchase ahead of time. Again, kids under 36in. get in for free, but you would need to buy their food on-site.

3. What time for travel? Mapquest gives it roughly 2.5 hours to get over there, but we gain an hour with the time difference. The park hours are 10:30-4:30 next Sat. If we met at the Church at 8:30, to get on the road by 9:00, that would get us there roughly 10:30 their time. Or, we can go later if people wanted...

Please try to respond to this blog asap so I can put the "official" invite for the trip on the blog and e-mail quickly.
Soooo looking forward to this with everyone!
God's blessings,
Tony
